Onboarding experience
Get started immediately upon enrollment. Our app guides you through scheduling your initial planning session (as soon as 24 hours later), building your to-do list, and documenting your home maintenance goals — no expert knowledge required. Urgent service needs can be addressed in parallel with onboarding.
Your virtual onboarding session is a 45-60 minute video call, in which we address questions and worries about your home, establish your service roadmap, and design your annual HomeCare program. We can scope immediate needs in real-time with in-app video and schedule your first service visit as early as that same week.
An optional onboarding service is an on-site Home Evaluation. Similar to a home inspection but for more practical purposes, the visit and report will document your home’s systems and features. This comprehensive inventory enables custom maintenance recommendations and faster future service, as our team will have key details already at hand. Watch our video in the FAQ below to learn more.

Annual Preventative Maintenance
Most members choose to add a custom HomeCare Plan. This puts your annual calendar for preventative and seasonal visits on autopilot — gutter cleaning, dryer vent cleanings, window washing, kitchen tune-ups, chimneys, anything you want to set and forget.
Whether or not you add a HomeCare Plan, a variety of preventative maintenance checks are already included during your Birdwatch Fix visits.
Base preventative maintenance in winter:
- Test smoke & carbon monoxide detectors
- Check fire extinguishers
- Sanitize the dishwasher & garbage disposal
- Inspect water filters (replace if provided)
- Inspect all door hardware (knobs, locks, deadbolts and hinges)
- Test garage door auto-reverse and safety mechanisms
- Replace burned-out interior & exterior lightbulbs if on-site
- Inspect HVAC filters (replace if on-site)
Base preventative maintenance in spring:
- Clean & sanitize outside trash / recycling cans
- Exterior perimeter visual review (loose siding, pests, drainage, etc.)
- Check all plumbing fixtures, toilets and exposed pipes for any signs of leaks, corrosion or malfunctioning
- Perform a visual inspection of the water heater(s) for signs of any leaks, corrosion, or rust
- Replace burned-out interior & exterior lightbulbs if on-site
- Inspect HVAC filters (replace if on-site)
Base preventative maintenance in summer:
- Sanitize the dishwasher & garbage disposal
- Inspect water filters (replace if provided)
- Examine exterior hose bibs & faucets
- Vacuum refrigerator coils (if accessible)
- Inspect HVAC filters (replace if on-site)
- Replace burned-out interior & exterior lightbulbs if on-site
Base preventative maintenance in fall:
- Inspect grout, sealant and caulking in wet areas
- Inspect weather stripping on doors and windows

These visits are ideal for the kind of home care that often falls to the bottom of the list: high ceiling lightbulbs, hanging art, loose doors and knobs, clogged gutters, basic furniture assembly, and so forth. Members use Fix visits to keep their homes tuned up between larger service calls—small touch-ups that add up to a big feeling of control and calm.
Birdwatch Fix visits cover work that can be completed with standard tools and stocked materials, without requiring a permit, trade license, or parts run. If it can be addressed on the spot—no design choices, ordering, or specialized trades needed—it’s likely a fit for a Fix. Anything more complex or customized would be scoped as a service or project visit.
Do you have a lot of this kind of work? Some members choose to upgrade the Birdwatch Fix visit from quarterly to monthly, which adds $200/mo to your membership. Or if you just have a one-time need with extra work, you can schedule to extend your booked Fix visit or add a one-off visit. Options are 2 hours for $275 or 4 hours for $500.
Finally, while we’re at your home quarterly, we use the opportunity to conduct a variety of preventative maintenance checks and small touches, such as:

You can point out concerns, ask questions, and get clear, honest feedback about what really matters, what can wait, and where a bit of proactive work could save you headaches later. This isn’t a project scoping visit for a new renovation, this is about clear eyed view on the status of your home, today.
